Daphne Nikita's Biography

!

 

Studies

 

1990-1994               Studied Visual and Performed Arts at the University of KENT Canterbury, England (BA with Honors). Her studies included courses of art history from the ancient times until the 20th century, history of aesthetic theories, analysis of art works and museology.

 

1994-1995               History of Art at Goldsmiths’ College at the University of London

MA, Art of the Twentieth Century. 

                                 

Professional experience

 

2001- Today            She is the Director of the Centre of Contemporary Art Diatopos.

 

1998- Today            She is the producer (research and presentation) of the program “Cultural Mosaic” of the Third Program of the Cyprus Broadcasting Cooperation.

 

1995-1999                 She was responsible of the cultural page of “Trianda” magazine.

She collaborated by writing critical essays on art for the Cyprus newspaper “To Vima”. She also collaborated with Politis newspaper and its cultural pages.

 

1996-1997               She worked for the Cybc television program “Panda Techni Esti”

presenting the visual art exhibitions.

 

1997-1998               She collaborated with the program “Radio newspaper”(critical reviews and interviews for cultural issues)- First program of CYBC.   

 

She curated many art exhibitions in collaboration with cultural institutions in Cyprus. She also collaborated with the Nicosia Municipal Art Centre, organizing guided tours for exhibitions. 

 

She has written several texts on the work of Contemporary Cypriot artists in books, exhibition catalogues and for the everyday press.

 

She is also writing poetry. In 1999 she published the poetic collection “Bottles of the same Perfume” and in 2006 the poetic collection “The Raining Wagon”. In June 1999 she represented Cyprus in the section of Poetry, of the Biennale of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean, in Rome. She took part with poetry in the research symposium of art and design“Millennium fetish”, organised by the Educational Centre of Contemporary Art & Design Artstudio Laboratories.
